Deepavali Festival of Lights (Assignment Additional Plus 1)

Festivals and celebrations make me so excited, I'm sure that I'm not alone in this. All of us get excited about celebrations especially when it comes to Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali, and Christmas. Everyone from the different race also enjoys celebrating the festivals. I always admire the audience in any festival shows, we unite as 1 Malaysia. However, my family and I celebrate Deepavali where we call the Festival Of Lights where we invite prosperity, happiness and peace into the family.

Back here in Melaka, we have carnival a month before Deepavali where they sell attires, sweets, lights, decorations, and also firecrackers. Usually, my family and I used to go shopping two or three days before Deepavali because we can bargain the prices and can get sarees for cheap prices. We didn't have time to make murukku so we decided to buy a few containers of murukkus. Once back home, we start decorating the house. Last year, my brother and I decided to add wallpaper in the living room. It was our very first experience, thank you to our parents for guiding us. It just added a new vibe in the living room, next we have to make a changeover to the sofa, kitchen, and porch. Right after cleaning the house, we go to the nearest salon for a hair cut. My brothers love this part of Deepavali because they feel new and fresh with hair cuts.

On the eve of Deepavali, we visit the orphanage center, offer them food and new clothes. The smiles on their faces make us feel more blessed and grateful. We always do this because we want them to feel fortunate. Not only my family, other families, and organizations also come and serve the orphanages. We serve them with my mom's homemade biryani which is so yummylicious. My brothers and I will do the packing at home. The kids always enjoy the food.

After serving the kids for lunch, we come back home and offer our ancestors foods and fruits. We pray to them for their blessings and thank them for giving such a wonderful family. Then we start fixing the colorful lights on the porch which makes our home more beautiful. We used to chit chat, dance, and eat snacks while doing the preparation. Sometimes, our neighbor's children also join us. Later on, I will start creating kolam and last year I decided to go simple and nice with a peacock design. I bought the materials from the Deepavali carnival and added ghee lamp and flowers on it which makes it extra beautiful.

Then, sharp 12am, we light up the firecrackers, and start the countdown for Deepavali, that time our streets will be the most happening with songs and laughter. After the countdown, my mother said that she needs to collect some biscuits from her friend and surprised us with two puppies 😍 We were out of words because we always wanted to adopt a dog, I would say that it was the best Deepavali in our life, the presence of Coco&Jumbo gave us so much of happiness. They eventually become our family members. Thanks to my Mom.

Finally, on Deepavali morning, we wake up at 6am to have our oil bath. Our father applies coconut oil on our head and body, it is a tradition by the way. An oil-bath is well known for removing heat from the body. Apart from this, it’s also beneficial for the skin and eyes, helps your hair grow, and reduces blood pressure. Plus, when combined with a scrub, oil baths can help to remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin with a healthy glow.

Right after that, we wear our Deepavali attires and visits the temple with the family to get blessings from God. There you can see a lot of families with colorful attires worshipping God. After that, we have our mandatory breakfast which is Thosai&Idly along with the chicken curry. Believe me, its a must on Deepavali morning. After breakfast, we start having our visitors. Our first visitors will be my childhood Malay friends. They don't fail to visit us for Deepavali and especially they come for my Thosai and Chicken curry and not to forget murukku.

My family and I usually have visitors on the first day. On the second day, we start to visit our relatives at Perak and Seremban. We totally got the "balik kampung" vibes. Watching movies on the week on Deepavali is a must so we catch up with the new release movies in the cinemas. That's how we end our Deepavali, we just eat and eat. We are always grateful that we celebrate the festival of lights together. I can't wait for Deepavali 2020 because it is going to extra special. Cheers to many more happenings Deepavali

Gratitude

What is gratitude? Gratitude is a way of being thankful or show appreciation for and to return kindness. In the beginning, I only know gratitude as a greeting where we need to thank people for their help or time but I got to know that gratitude has much power in it. Special thanks to my friend for introducing me to this, she made wonders and so am I. So this is how it works, get a book, any book which is comfortable for you to write. Start your writing with "Thank you God" and end your writing with "Thank you, God". You have to write things about everything in the past tense. For example, you have applied for a job and you are waiting for their call. So you write like "Thank you, God, I have already joined the job" You gotta write as if it already happened. But this does not work all the time. The purpose of doing this where you create a positive vibe where good things have already happened and will happen if you have input your hard work. I have also ...
