Attention Is Important

The technology is becoming more high-tech, each and every one of us are busy doing our own work, same goes to our parents. As we see, parents spend very less time with their children, some of them even never bother about their children problems. This is where children/teenagers are seeking for some other things out there. Well, who do you think children/teenagers now days getting spoiled? Friends? Social media? Gadgets? Or Parents?

I would say that some parents are one of the reasons why children/teenagers this generation getting spoiled. Why do I say so? Number 1, there is a lack of attention. Lack of attention leads teens to involve themselves in unnecessary things like posting about their life dramas in social media. They find it interesting because social media eventually makes them a hero/heroine. If they have full attention from their parents, they don’t seek others to entertain them.

Number 2, how you behave with others in front of your children is important. In this case, I saw a man at a Chinese restaurant chit-chatting with his friends while having some beers and cigarettes. Well, this is a common thing, but what makes me sad was that man had a little son with him at the age of 8. So, how do you think the little boy’s mentality/future will be? Won’t he try to smoke? Won’t he try to drink beer as his father? So who triggers the little boy here?

Moving on, I would like to share some of my experience. I had a chance to visit the Gurney school (Juvenile school) through a school programme. As soon we went there, we had a short speech from the principal. He stated that the statistics show 80% of the teens have both parents,15% of their parents had undergone divorce case and only 5% of the teens are orphan. It feels sad and disappointing to see most of the teens have both parents but ended up being in a juvenile school. And then, one of the victims came and shared his stories to us. He lived in a well-being family, due to lack of love to many freedom he ended up consuming drugs. He even tried to share with his parents to get rid of this addiction but his parents failed to lend their time for him. Unknowingly, we have these situations around us. Just ask yourself.

Lately, I came across some issues through social media where a parent came and had an argument with a teacher in the school. The argument was all about ‘My child is not your servant to clean off the whiteboard. It’s your duty to do that since you are being paid.” Come on, when I was in my secondary school, my teacher used to throw our books out of the classrooms, and we also had duck walk along the corridor but I have never shared any of this to my parents nor my parents do not take this as a big deal. And another case was, one of my friends worked as a teacher in a Chinese pre-school. One day, she tapped on to a little Chinese girl’s hand. Since Chinese has a very fair tone, it formed a reddish mark. Immediately, the girl’s parents went and lodged a complaint at the police station. Just imagine, if the girl goes to her primary and secondary school won’t she take advantage? Won’t she become pampered kid?

Well, from all these cases, you may clearly know who had been and who is being the main course for kids nowadays being too free and pampered. Soon, in future, each and one of us are going to go through the parental phase. Of course, I don’t want my kids to go through what I went at an early age. But I will ensure that they are brought up by being their own way. Nothing is perfect, it's all about learning. Its never too late to talk with your parents. Let them know you want to be treated. Thank you.
